This video presents the research project “Proyecto para Potenciar la Innovación en la Cirugía Robotizada”. It is a Agència Valenciana de la Innovació (AVI), of the Generalitat Valenciana.

The Project was developed in the Hospital General of Valencia, and four research institutes have collaborate: the Instituto de Automática e Informática Industrial (ai2), of the Universitat Politècnica de València, the Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia, the Instituto Tecnológico del Plástico, and the Instituto de Robótica y Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones, of the Universitat de València.
The aim of this project is to promote robotic surgery. It was developed in 2019, and it had four subprojects.

This video shows in more detail the application based on an UR3 collaborative robot for the control of the position and force of the Clermont Ferrand uterine manipulator (of Karl Storz). It shows how you can control the position and the force of the manipulator according to the necessary manoeuvres for the performance of surgical acts. In particular, 3 translation movements (along the X-Y-Z axes) and 2 rotational movements (roll and pitch) are required. The video also shows the man-machine interfaces that have been developing to handle the manipulator in a simple and intuitive way.

Robot control with 5G communications

This video is related to the news published in the newspaper and TV news on June 14th, 2019 and June 17th, 2019 in which is reported the use of 5G communications for the control of robotic systems.

In this work have participated researchers from the UPV of this research project and the telephone companies Orange and ZTE. Two platforms have been developed. The first one present the control of a YUMI, the ABB collaborative robot. The second one is the remote control of an electric card.

With the YUMI, the robotic arm is remotely controlled in real time with 5G communications to deal with high-precision tasks using deep learning algorithms. In the future, the robotic arm will be used in the fields of medical, industrial manufacturing, defense, entertainment and others.

The electric car has, in addition to other sensors, two cameras that transmit the car environment using 5G communications. The remote pilot drives the vehicle and provides the references for the steering, brake and throttle of the car.
